About

All children at Muirton Community Nursery are encouraged to learn through play in a secure and caring environment, developing the skills, independence and confidence to prepare them for starting school.

Our nursery atmosphere is loving, friendly and happy and the children follow the Curriculum for Excellence and Pre-Birth to 3 Guidelines.  Staff work closely with parents to ensure their child’s daily routine is followed within the nursery.

Pre-Birth to 3: Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families

This national guidance sets the context for high quality care and education and seeks to identify key features that support and promote evidence-based approaches.

The Rights of the Child, Relationships, Responsive Care and Respect are the four key principles which form the basis of this guidance. All staff working with young children should be aware that these key principles are interrelated and interdependent.  Muirton Community Nursery understands the importance of working closely with parents to ensure every child’s individual needs and wants are met.  The staff will take their lead from you the primary carer and work closely with you to ensure your child is settled and thriving in all aspects of their development.  The children will experience a wide range of sensory play on a daily basis.

Curriculum for Excellence for children age 3 – 18 years

At Muriton Community Nursery we use the GIRFEC approach throughout the service.  We are committed to ensuring that every child and young person is safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included.  We ensure the Curriculum for Excellence is embedded in the day to day life of the service.  Staff and children work in collaboration to celebrate each other’s strengths, achievements and talents.  Staff and children are actively encouraged to share and display their achievements. The curriculum aims to ensure that all children and young people in Scotland develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they will need if they are to flourish in life, learning and work, now and in the future.  The staff and children will explore and experience a vast and wide range of curriculum activities which will incorporate all eight curriculum areas and work to ensure all children within the service are: Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors.

Muirton Community Nursery ensures that Getting it Right For Every Child is at the heart of the service. Children are encouraged daily too express and share their views, ideas and lead their own learning. Staff promote and teach the children important life skills and encourage them to understand their human rights.
